BITCOIN EXCHANGE-BITHUMB ACCIDENTLY SENDS $44BILLION TO USERS 9th of FEBRUARY, 2026
On the 6th of February, 2026, Bithumb accidentally send over $44 million of Bitcoin to its users in a promotional offer. This was an error. About 2000KRW was meant to be distributed but 2000btc was sent to 695 users.
In the process of recovering the funds and rectifying the mistake, South Korean exchange - Bithumb froze users accounts 35 minutes after the error was done and recovered about 99.7% of the funds. Ironically, about 80 users have cashed out their funds making the process of recovering all the funds a bit difficult. .
